From Learning to Solder to Creative Electronics: Kits for Curious Makers

With 2025 finally drawing to a close, here are some creative electronic circuit kits for the holiday break. These range from easy beginner kits to the more advanced boutique circuits to hone and test your soldering skills; whatever your skill level. We looked for kits that are not only practical electronic circuits but also works of art, with interesting curves and colours in their designs.

Please note that due to the dangers of button cells, all kits are only supplied with safe alternatives e.g., 2 x AAAA, 9V, or similar. See the warning and links in kit descriptions for additional information.

Beginner Soldering Kits

These are simple kits with only a few components spaced further apart to be more forgiving whilst still giving you the satisfaction of completing and learning from a working electronic circuit.

Intermediate to Advanced Kits

These kits have more components which are closer together and so require a bit more soldering experience and accuracy - at the same time there is a lot satisfaction when completing a more interesting circuit with more functionality.

These Whadda kits are reasonably simple but have a few more components - so are good practice after the simpler kits, but without too much precise soldering.

Although slightly more utilitarian, these Whadda kits make up for this with more practical demonstrations of electronic circuits. Take note of the images, which show the increased complexity and intricacy of the circuitry on these - more seasoned soldering skills are required.

To get started, you can use our How to Solder guide; which includes photos of good and bad soldering examples.

Safety first

  • Always wear eye protection when soldering.
  • A standing bench makes it easier to step out the way in the event of a heated tool falling.
