Set classroom design challenges & test outcomes with fun timed racing activities with the Kitronik Timed Drag Racer Module! Assemble the Kits, create a chassis, & race!
The Kitronik Timed Drag Racer Module is a fun and interactive way of combining design-based activities with electronics. Children can overcome design challenges set by the teacher to produce an outcome that can then become a classroom competitive racing activity. Once the kit has been assembled, the rest is in the hands of the students.
The module comprises a pre-built motor driver and timer module, a motor, and an AA battery holder, a motor pulley and a 10nF capacitor. The motor is a low-torque flat DC motor with two flat sides allowing for easy panel mounting. The 2 x AA battery holder is small and features 150mm colour-coded flying leads. The motor and battery holders need to be soldered to the board on the corresponding pads, also, the 10nF capacitor needs to be soldered across the motor. The capacitor acts as a noise suppressor, protecting the board's circuit from noise spikes produced by the motor. Additionally, the board features 4 x M3 (3.3mm) mounting holes and 2 x 2.75mm strain relief holes for the power and motor wires.
The timed drag race module features a push button, when pressed the attached motor runs for 5 seconds. Design decisions made by the children will determine which racer has the competitive edge! The board also features button expansion pads that allow for an external push button that can be mounted in a more accessible location. This kit requires some soldering. The battery holder and motor both need to be soldered to the PCB.
The board has an operating voltage of between 2.5V and 3.0V and draws 220mA when the motor is running. The typical battery life for 2 x AA is approx. 2000 button presses.
Note:
- This kit requires some soldering. The battery holder and motor both need to be soldered to the PCB, and the 10nF capacitor soldered to the motor.
- This Kit is not supplied with batteries.
Features:
- Combine electronics and design in an engaging and fun hands-on classroom exercise.
- Build the kit, design & make the chassis and wheels and test. Set up races to measure the effectiveness of the designs.
- The timed drag race module features a push button, when pressed the attached motor runs for 5 seconds.
- The board also features button expansion pads that allow for an external/remote push button.
- Operating voltage of between 2.5V and 3.0V
- Nominally draws 220mA when the motor is running
- Typical battery life for 2 x AA is approx. 2000 button presses.
- Minimal kit assembly required, solder the battery holder and motor to the board. The rest is all your chassis design.
